What do the different colors mean on the multi sources view screen.

I assume you mean the background color when the camera video not shows up:
red - no camera on that IP number, wrong IP number.
blue - a camera is available on that IP number, but the connection URL is wrong.
gray - a camera is connected, but it is disabled. Right-click mouse and it can be enabled.
