Webcam 7 SMTP Gmail server?

Hello,

I have installed Webcam 7 on two separate and identical PCs, in different locations, and with the same software version.

On the first PC, I use Gmail’s SMTP server that works: smtp.gmail.com, Port 465. Excellent if you retrieve a password via App passwords:

https://myaccount.google.com/u/1/apppasswords

But with the second computer it doesn’t work at all. I configure it the same way. I have activated two-step verification. It retrieves the password which consists of 16 characters, divided into 4 blocks with a space between each block. I paste the password into Webcam 7, as it was shown and also removed the spaces, but it doesn’t work at all.

I have tested further on other PCs with the same error.

However, if I switch to a different SMTP server, it works. However, most emails end up in the SPAM folder with that SMTP server, which doesn’t happen from Gmail SMTP server.

I guess the error lies with Gmail and the App password? Maybe new app passwords don’t work anymore?

I would be very grateful if you could share your experiences?

I assume you do not use the same app password on both computers. Sounds like gmail collects information about software and computer and that can only use one account on gmail, maybe?

Hello,

Thanks for your comments.

I use different passwords on these computers.

It’s hard to know what Gmail’s policy is, as they are extremely brief and do not specify any limits on the number of accounts…?

It would be interesting if someone could try installing Webcam 7 on another computer and with the same Gmail account on both but different passwords.

The information about app passwords has changed, as a blog wrote in 2023, and it says that to get an App password, you have to specify, under points 2, 3 and 4, things that I don’t get when I apply for a password? For example, a list of applications and a list of devices. None of that is required today.

Thanks for more tips and if anyone has tried something else.

Hello,
I have tested with another Gmail account and Port 465, but the same problem, not working and message: connect error 10060. Hope you have any idea?

Webcam is very old. If it’s a security problem Windows is also involved. I assume you run Win 11. No more ideas.

Yes Webcam 7 is old, but still a very good software!

As far as I understand it had nothing to do with Windows 10. The email service is working perfect inside Webcam 7, except for Gmail accounts. Other SMTP serviced work normal but give many Spams.

So I assume that the problem is with the Gmail app password service. Since on the other PC the Gmail work OK with app password made for many years back.

Perhaps Google do not support app passwords anymore?

That was the reason I ask if anyone could test now if an new App password for Gmail into Webcam 7 still works. If not, there is a big risk that Google have changed there service?
